“I would take a really talented solo founder over a mismatched team any day.”

Charles Hudson is the solo GP of Precursor Ventures. He's invested in over 500 companies, including Modern Health, Superhuman, and The Athletic. He's also watched 30% of his portfolio lose a co-founder before Series A.

He's not anti-co-founder. His platonic ideal is still two deeply connected founders who trust each other completely. But after hundreds of investments, he's seen what happens: co-founders who resent each other, dead equity, and succession battles for CEO.

In this episode, Charles explains why he now prefers betting on one person over trying to diagnose whether two people will stick together. He also shares what he looks for in solo founders that's different from teams, and why most people underestimate the loneliness of building solo.
